How do you know you’re making a difference? What helps you know that you’re moving in the direction you want to head?
For me, it’s energizing and helpful to take time to reflect and review my goals and plans, to check in with myself on where I am headed.
And while it’s great to see the progress of a goal achieved, it’s often less about whether I actually make the goal than where I am in the course I’ve set.
Others
have said this better than I can, but goals are the map we draw, the
course we set, for where we are going. Sometimes, though, we find we
have to make course adjustments along the way – a road is closed, we
have to change a flat tire, we learn of a by-pass or short-cut that may
help us get where we’re going more quickly.
We check our map, get our bearings, and decide where we are headed – maybe it’s the same road, maybe a different one.
Sometimes even coming to a dead-end is ultimately useful in our journey, in that we can choose other roads in the future.
Ultimately, for me, making a difference is in part about being aware of my choices, and making them consciously.
How about you? What will you do this week to check in on where you are headed? I’d love to hear what you find helpful!
