What gets in your way of pursuing what you want to do?
Sometimes life puts obstacles in our path; sometimes we create our own obstacles.
As an example, I’ve been wanting to get a post up here all week – but haven’t. What’s up with that?, I’ve been asking myself.
Time: I’m generating ideas for this blog all the time in my
mind, but finding the time to get them written up as posts has been
tough this week.
Gremlins (shoulds): I’m needing to
learn how to be OK with imperfection on this blog — I’ve been excited
by the response so far, but I know that there’s more to do.
We all get stuck at times with our projects. Knowing what
contributes to the ‘stuck-ness’, and re-stating what we’re trying to do
(and why) can be first steps to freeing ourselves.
For me, what helped me get off the dime in this example was to
remind myself how writing this blog feeds into my values in coaching
(authenticity, honesty, being in service to others), and to examine my
assumptions about the situation (carving out time, not needing to be
‘perfect’).
Part of what I love about coaching as a tool is the reminder that we always have choices – even when we think we’re stuck.
How will you free yourself from a place you’re stuck this week?
