I’ve mentioned before that I’m stepping it up this year in my work as a coach, and pursuing coaching certification through The Coaches Training Institute. I started this rigorous process of learning and growth last month, and already I can see how I’m stretching and evolving as a coach.
Here’s where I’m headed this month, stepping not just up but out of my comfort zone:
- No more holding back or playing it safe with my clients: aim to regularly fail. Growth happens in "failure".
- Be courageous and fearless: it’s for the client and their agenda.
- Be always clear, open and curious: never assume you know. Ask the powerful questions which elicit both deep reflection and bold action.
- Walk my own talk: do the things I need to do for myself to step up my own power and capacity as a coach.

How have you been stepping up – & out – lately? Where could you stretch yourself further?
How could your stretching impact your efforts to make a difference?

Before specializing as a professional coach in 2004, I spent more than a decade in leadership, management and program development for state and local government and non-profit organizations. Now I get to help leaders and teams have more clarity and ability to stand up for what's important in their work and in their organizations. Working with me, leaders and teams find more meaning and purpose, feel happier and more confident, navigate change and conflict, and work together better.
