I long to accomplish a great and noble task, but it is my chief duty to accomplish humble tasks as though they were great and noble. The world is moved along, not only by the mighty shoves of its heroes, but also by the aggregate of the tiny pushes of each honest worker. — Helen Keller
This quote speaks volumes to me. It was posted prominently on my office wall when I worked in state government to remind me of my commitment to improving public health through policy change and community engagement – one of my great and noble tasks.
This quote also helped me remember the importance and value of the more mundane day-to-day interactions and activities – that small contributions to the larger whole are part of making a difference.
To be so graceful as to take on the humble tasks of work and life as though they are great and noble – that’s something I’m still working on!
What’s your ‘great and noble task’?
How are your ‘tiny pushes’ contributing to the bigger picture?
