I’ve always been happy to make time for students or new professionals who ask to do an informational interview with me. I love the energy and enthusiasm of people just entering our profession – I am often re-energized myself after these types of meetings! While I hope they get value from talking with me, I think I often get as much or more out of the interaction.
Giving back to my profession in this way is one of my values. I received so much help when I was new in my field that I’ve felt that it’s my duty in part to return the favor.
And the circle continues: I’ve found that in sharing my time and knowledge with others, I’m again in a place of receiving – gratitude, respect, honor.
How are you giving back?
What values do you honor when you give back?
What do you receive when you give back?

Before specializing as a professional coach in 2004, I spent more than a decade in leadership, management and program development for state and local government and non-profit organizations. Now I get to help leaders and teams have more clarity and ability to stand up for what's important in their work and in their organizations. Working with me, leaders and teams find more meaning and purpose, feel happier and more confident, navigate change and conflict, and work together better.
